India’s Department of Financial Services has launched a Common Landing Portal for Unclaimed Financial Assets. It gives citizens one starting point for finding the official systems used to trace unclaimed bank deposits, insurance claims, shares, and mutual-fund assets.

The portal is part of the “Your Money, Your Right” initiative and was developed with PSB Alliance. Its purpose is simple: reduce the confusion of discovering which regulator or institution holds an asset and where a claim should begin.

A common doorway is not a common claim form

The portal improves discovery, but each asset still follows the relevant institution’s verification and claim process. A bank deposit, insurance amount, shareholding, and mutual-fund folio can require different records and different steps.

Families may still need account references, identity documents, proof of relationship, death certificates, succession documents, or other records depending on the asset and nomination status.

Why this matters before an asset becomes unclaimed

A search portal helps after the trail has gone cold. A current financial inventory helps prevent that trail from disappearing. Record the institution, account or policy reference, nominee status, document location, and the trusted person who should know the asset exists.

Do not store banking passwords, PINs, or OTPs in that inventory. The useful map identifies the asset and the legitimate route to it without exposing credentials.

The practical takeaway

Use the government portal to investigate assets that may already be unclaimed. For the assets you hold today, maintain one updated family map and review it after major life changes. Discovery tools and good documentation work best together.
