FAQ

Honest answers to fair questions

We've gathered every question Indian families have asked us about Vashiyat. If yours isn't here, please reach out — we'd love to answer it personally.

Getting started

Vashiyat is a secure digital vault where you record every financial asset you own — bank accounts, mutual funds, stocks, real estate, insurance, crypto and more — and securely pass that information to your chosen nominees when needed.

You can create your account in under a minute and add your first few assets in under 10 minutes. Building a comprehensive register typically takes a couple of weekend sessions.

Not at all. The most useful time to maintain a Vashiyat is when you're young, healthy and accumulating wealth. The earlier you start, the simpler the picture stays.

When nominees ask for access

When a verified nominee requests access, you have a configurable review period to approve or decline. We notify you across every channel — email, SMS, WhatsApp, push and voice call. If the window ends with no response, we follow the release path you configured for the assets you had assigned to that nominee. The length is configurable within the limits shown in the product (for example 7–30 days).

You can configure a "designated guardian" — a trusted friend, family member or professional — who is informed when a nominee request begins. They can reach you, or pause the timer for up to 30 additional days.

Approvals can be revoked at any time before access is actively granted. Once a nominee has viewed an asset, the audit log captures it, but you can rotate access, change nominees, or remove the asset entirely.

Every request goes through the verification steps you enable, with immediate notifications to you and your guardian. Repeated unverified requests are blocked. You also have the option to require nominees to upload a death certificate or its equivalent during request submission.

Security & privacy

No, never. Vashiyat stores asset metadata — account numbers, custodians, value, supporting documents — but never your banking credentials, trading PINs or OTPs. We will never ask for them.

All your data is stored on encrypted servers located physically in India, in compliance with the DPDP Act 2023. We do not replicate to foreign regions.

Your vault is not something our team scrolls through. Access is strictly limited to what each role needs to run the service, everything meaningful is logged, and we are building toward published transparency reports so you can see how we handle access in practice—not vague promises.

We maintain a multi-year escrow arrangement so that, in the unlikely event of a shutdown, your data is preserved and exported to you in an encrypted, portable format with at least 12 months' notice.

Legal & regulatory

No. Vashiyat is an asset register and nominee-access system. It is not a substitute for a registered legal will. We strongly recommend complementing your Vashiyat with a registered will and consulting a qualified estate-planning lawyer.

Vashiyat helps your nominees know what assets exist and how to reach them. Actual transfer of ownership is governed by Indian succession law, your will, joint-holder arrangements, nominations registered with each custodian and any applicable personal law. We make discovery easy; transfer still happens through the legal system.

Vashiyat is not a banking, broking, or AMC product, so we are not directly regulated by RBI or SEBI. However, we voluntarily follow RBI's IT framework for NBFCs and SEBI's cyber-security guidelines for market intermediaries.
